On February 14th, we had the honor of being the guest speaker at ABC Orange County’s Coordinators Only Luncheon at Hotel Seven4One; titled The BRIGHT Way to “I Do”! (photos by Kristina Lee Photography)
We explained how important lighting is at a wedding in 3 points:
1. It creates an ambiance that will enhance the decor
2. It can act as a substitute for decor
3. It transforms an ordinary space into something extraordinary

Now, let us elaborate on our 3 bullet points made:
1. Brides can add different pops of color in their florals and linens, but out of those which one sets the mood for the wedding? In order to bring decor together and create the ambiance desired, the one essential element required is LIGHTING. By choosing a lighting color that compliments the theme, the florals the bride spend thousands of dollars on are now enriched. Budgets are stretched often for the overall design, however the money is not well spent if the decor is not enhanced – which can be accomplished with simple uplighting. Lighting is the simplest and most budget friendly way to turn a dream venue into a dream wedding.

2. Bride on a tight budget? To that we say, invest in lighting! If one cannot afford the extravagant event design and over the top florals, the most budget friendly thing to do is include lighting. Those centerpieces on every table, pinspot them! By having pinspots hit the centerpieces, the florals create pops of color throughout the space. To complete the look, add uplights around the perimeter of the space to complete the look. By adding 1, 2 or more chandeliers to the space, not only is it extra light in the venue, but gorgeous decor as well. Again, for those super tight budgets, spring for uplights and choose a color that will bring all your decor full circle.
Another option when considering lighting over decor, think about a pattern gobo. By having these patterns placed on the dance floor or a wall, it becomes a focal point to guests. Patterns can be chosen to compliment the theme of the wedding, as well as brighten up the space without harsh lighting.

3. Ballrooms typically tend to include the same thing – tan color walls, concave ceiling lighting on dimmers and patterned carpet that does not match the decor at all. In order to turn the blank space into a dream venue, add lighting. As much as I can say that lighting can alter the space, pictures say a thousand more words…
